Mohegan Sun: The Selfie Circle Guests Kept Finding “By Accident”
Mohegan Sun wanted an always‑on way to turn everyday casino foot traffic into fun moments, emails, and content, so we built a “selfie circle” that quietly logged 117,128 sessions and 148,154 views over three years.

The Challenge
This wasn't about a one-weekend spectacle or a flashy campaign.
Mohegan Sun needed a small, durable engine that would let guests have a quick, on-brand moment without interrupting their night, turn that moment into consented email signups instead of awkward clipboard asks, and survive casino traffic, unpredictable lighting, and unreliable Wi-Fi on a permanent basis.

The "selfie circle" combined three permanent photo booth units with custom backdrops and branded digital outputs guests could discover and use on their own.
The Experience
We installed three permanent photo booth units inside a ring of custom backdrops—a "selfie circle" that became part of the property itself.
From a guest's point of view, it looked like this:
- You're killing a few minutes between dinner and a show.
- You spot a backdrop that looks inviting, not pushy.
- You tap the screen, choose a photo, GIF, or boomerang, and capture your moment with Mohegan Sun branding built in.
- Your finished photo is delivered by email, along with timely updates about what's happening across the property that night.
From the guest's perspective, it was simply, "That was fun."
From Mohegan Sun's perspective, it meant new email subscribers, fresh branded content, and relevant promotions delivered in under a minute.

Built into the property rather than added for a single campaign, the three-unit installation became an experience guests could discover every day.
Why It Worked
It felt like part of the casino, not a campaign.
The selfie circle didn't demand attention. It felt like another feature guests naturally discovered, and then recommended to friends.
It made marketing feel like a favor, not a push.
Guests received something they genuinely wanted: a great photo or fun GIF. The promotional message arrived naturally as part of that experience instead of interrupting it.
It turned casual visitors into a real audience.
Guests get a keepsake. Mohegan Sun gets a warm, opted-in contact they can actually follow up with.
It survived casino reality.
Heavy foot traffic, challenging lighting, complex networks, this installation was built to run reliably every day without becoming another piece of technology that needed constant attention.
